It tells how Joe Paterno had so much influence on people around him and therefore can be said a timeless article.
The second article is definitely a feature story because not only is it big news but it is also in rememberance of the coach and a way to honor him (recognize his accomplishments). The first one could be a feature but it's not a great one. I don't know if it would reach a huge audience but some might be interested.
